Gavi has become one of the most sought-after premium Italian wines. The DOCG of Gavi del comune di Gavi (or ‘Gavi di Gavi’) lies on chalky soil – the perfect terroir for the Cortese grape which produces minerally citrus wines with elegance and finesse. Bergaglio’s ‘La Minaia’ is considered the first cru in this denomination – and his 2009 was rewarded with the Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) award from the Gambero Rosso. With 15 hectares of new vineyards and a new cellar, it is all systems go for this exceptional producer.
