We - Monica, Patrick, Pia and Andy - run our winery in the middle of the Burgenland - also called the Blaufränkischland. In the third generation we are working on 49 hectars of vineyards.
With a lot of passion, fun and devotion we strive to create unique wines with a particular focus on the origin. Our new signature wine, a DAC Reserve, shows a cross on the label, symbolising our homeland and the strong relation between our wines and us.
About the history ...
The winery was founded by our grandfather Joseph Strehn. He started bottling wines in 1961, which are still rare then. But he was not focussing on selling bottled wine, the full potential of the region was not discovered yet. It was still the time when wines for easy drinking were produced.
When our mother Monica took over the responsibility of the winery, she started to plant also international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. She was experimenting a lot after attending international courses of winemaking. She introduced Barrique barrels and started - with the help of the Australian Winemaker Michael Gadd - to vinify top quality wines. In 1999 the winery moved from the centre to an ancient winery in the Weinbergweg and renovated the building.
Since 2007 we - Patrick and Pia - have also been working in the winery. The objective of our family is to focus on our region - we want to make wines which show strong character, are unique and memorable. Andy is studying viticulture and oenology in Vienna - he is bubbling over with new ideas and loves to taste wines from all over the world - every free minute he is working in the winery.
