Ribafreixo- Sociedade Agrícola, Lda was born from the decision of two men, who saw the perfect location for an exceptional new undertaking in the lands of the “Adega Moinho Branco” estate near the southern Portuguese town of Vidigueira, Alentejo, a Protected Designation of Origin (DOC) region with ideal conditions for producing high-quality white wines. In September 2007, Mário Pinheiro and Nuno Bicó joined forces in a structured investment aimed at achieving their “boutique winery” concept, located in the northern Beja district of the Alentejo. At Adega Moinho Branco, a combination of technology, wisdom and hard work resulted in white wines of superior refinement for the most demanding international markets. For this reason, several adjoining plots of land were purchased in Vidigueira, Alentejo with the expanse needed to ensure the project’s financial viability.

Along with its winemaking business, the company decided to embrace the sale of extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality, exclusively for international markets. Along with white wine, this is another product with strong traditions in the Vidigueira region, as in the rest of the Alentejo. Ribafreixo-Sociedade Agrícola, Lda is the exporter of the “SOL Portugal” brand, which it owns. This same brand is used exclusively for the olive oil produced and bottled by the Vidigueira Agricultural Cooperative (CAV). The two organizations have an exclusivity agreement where Ribafreixo exports all CAV olive oil under the SOL Portugal label. The SOL Portugal brand is exported with Kosher certification to Israel and other countries with well-established Jewish communities such as South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil and the United States.
