Federico Paternina Josué founded Bodegas Paternina as a company in 1896 in Ollauri, in the Alta region. Initially there were three cellars with around one
thousand American oak casks.
1896 - Federico Paternina founded the present company by merging three wineries in Ollauri.
1922 - The wineries of the Catholic Farmers' Union Co-operative in Haro were purchased.
1984 - As part of a re-privatisation process, the company was acquired by the Rioja-born businessman Marcos Eguizábal Ramírez.
1990 - An ambitious investment plan was implemented to modernise the company's facilities and incorporate the latest technological developments in vinification and bottling.
1994 - Paternina took over the Jerez based company Bodegas Internacionales, creating the Paternina Sherry
Division.
1996 - Paternina centenary celebrations.
1998 - Shares in Federico Paternina S.A. were floated on the stock exchange in September via a public share offer involving 27% of the company's capital.
1999 - New vineyards are bought in Pesquera de Duero.
2000 - The company purchased vineyards in Pesquera de Duero and began construction of a new Ribera del Duero winery in Quintana del Pidio (province of Burgos).
