Riesling Grand cru Wiebelsberg 2007 Grand Cru

A local « Grand Cru » place name located above the village of Andlau. A medium to steep-sloping hill, this locality is ideally situated on the south side of the hill and has been famed for years for its outstanding Rieslings. The stony, poor soil restricts the yields in a natural way. Geologically speaking, the soil is in majority composed of sandstone and sandstone gravels intermingled here and there with granite.

This place name generally yields wines with a strongly marked minerality, with degrees of acidity usually above average. This place name is ideal for making great dry wines suitable for a longer ageing.

HARVESTING : The harvest with immediate grape selection in the vineyard are always manual. Transport to the wine-making cellar is made in small containers. The grapes are pressed in pneumatic presses of the latest generation that allow full respect of the harvest grapes, followed by slow fermentation without yeasting during several weeks, made under strict permanent monitoring of the temperature in large oak casks.

TASTING : Upon tasting, Wiebelsberg Grand Cru Rieslings usually offer a rather discreet nose with a clean, racy palate where citrus-fruity acidity dominates. The palate always presents a complexity of aromas and long-lasting taste. These wines frequently need a few years of keeping to mature before revealing to the fullest their superb qualities.
