Country: France
Wine district: Alsace
Variety: Riesling

Type: This is a white wine with a delicate yet typical bouquet, exquisitely fruity and fresh, a very elegant and fine wine.

The vineyard: The area of production is called "Stein" (stone), located south of the village of Mittelbergheim. The soil is of marl-calcareous type and benefits from a privileged exposure to sunshine, being well-protected on its north side by the village; it is particularly well-adapted to riesling (and muscat) grapes.

Harvest, elaboration and aging: The grapes are hand-picked, then selected and sorted out, then immediately pressed; the must is clarified by decantation then allowed to ferment. Blending and bottling occur after several months of maturing, once the wines are clear and "ready for bottling".

How to serve ? Riesling is to be served cool but not chilled, at an average temperature of 10°C. Serve it preferably in a long-stemmed "Alsace" glass.

How to keep it ? This wine may be kept several years (at least 5 to 6 years) in a cool wine cellar with constant temperatures (10° to 14° C). Bottles should be kept lying flat to maintain the cork in contact with the wine in order to prevent drying out.

What meals ? Being dry, Riesling pleases the palate, it is the ideal wine to serve with seafood, oysters and fish. It may be served with any first courses and goes best with Alsatian specialities such as sauerkraut, cockerel in Riesling or a wintner's pie. It is marvellous on goat cheese.
